Good Samaritan Law and Chain of Survival: In this section, you will learn about Good Samaritan Laws, which offer legal protection to bystanders who volunteer to help someone in need of emergency medical care. You will also learn the steps that make up the Chain of Survival, which is the recommended way to intervene if someone suffers cardiac arrest. Following these steps has been proven to increase the victim's chances of survival.
Universal Precautions: Protecting yourself is of the utmost importance when providing medical care to emergency victims. This section will cover universal practices and ways to protect you and prevent the spread of diseases. Proper hand hygiene after touching potentially infectious materials and using PPEs such as gloves, face masks, and gowns, among others, to prevent exposure to contagious contaminants in body fluids like saliva and blood will be covered.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation: This section will teach you how to administer CPR to different age groups (infants, Children, and Adults) in different scenarios. The CPR section will also teach CPR protocol for single and two rescuers.
Emergency Action Steps: Different medical emergencies require different action plans to manage the situation and preserve lives. This topic will explore various emergencies and the corresponding actions. Emergency management includes steps like preventing the incident from happening and being prepared to handle the situation.
Conscious and Unconscious Choking: This section highlights conscious and unconscious choking in adult victims and its treatment. It further explains choking as a severe health risk in infant and child victims and their emergency treatment protocols.
Bleeding control: Learning to control bleeding is essential in an emergency situation. Uncontrolled bleeding can lead to death. Therefore, the priority when dealing with uncontrolled bleeding is to stop blood flow. This can be done by applying pressure to the wound of the injured person with a clean cloth.
Types of Shocks: This course section will cover the different kinds of shock and how to respond during such emergencies. For example, anaphylactic shock, caused by allergic reactions, and septic shock, brought about by infections.
Types of Burns: This course section will teach you about the various types of burns, including electrical, radiation, chemical, and thermal burns.
Types of Poisoning: This section will teach you about the common types of poisoning, including food poisoning, alcohol poisoning, carbon monoxide poisoning, sun poisoning, plant poisoning, and chemical poisoning.
Muscle Injuries: This section will teach you about types of muscle injuries and sprains caused by fast and intense muscle contraction. Muscle injuries can occur due to accidents like falling or activities like athletics.
Broken Bones/Fractures: This section covers how fractures happen, including complete and partial ones. It will include types like Stress fracture, Oblique fracture, Transverse fracture, Comminuted fracture, Greenstick fracture, Pathologic fracture, Stable fracture, Open fracture, Spiral fracture, Avulsion fracture, Compression fracture, and Impacted fracture.
Sudden Illness: Sudden illness can occur when a person's health deteriorates unexpectedly. These situations require emergency medical attention to save a life and restore the person's good health. Some examples of sudden illnesses are heart attacks, seizures, comas, strokes, and fainting.
Stroke: This section will teach you about types of strokes, their causes, symptoms, and first aid treatment. It also covers tips on how to prevent strokes.
Seizures: Seizures are caused by an abrupt electrical disturbance in the brain. This section will teach you more about how seizures are classified and when to see a doctor.
Heat-related Illnesses: This course section will cover more heart-related illnesses, which affect the heart's ability to work usually. Numerous heart complications are collectively referred to as heart-related illnesses.
Frostbite and Hypothermia: This topic will cover the symptoms of hypothermia and frostbite, who is at high risk of being affected, and most importantly, what to do in such incidences.
Automated External Defibrillator: This section will educate you on how to use an Automated External Defibrillator to revive someone who has just suffered cardiac arrest. The AED will analyze the victim's heart rhythm and only press the "Shock" button if necessary.
