What is CPR?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) manually pumps blood to deliver oxygen to the organs during a cardiac arrest when the heart cannot do it on its own. When it is not beating, the heart fails to pump blood to the body's major organs, including the brain and kidneys. These organs need the oxygen contained in blood to survive, and without it, severe brain damage will occur within four minutes, and the victim will die within ten minutes. Therefore, performing CPR immediately following a cardiac arrest improves the victim's chance of survival.

What is the proper way to perform CPR?

Every moment matters to increase a victim’s chance of survival. Therefore, rescuers should not hesitate to begin CPR. The American Heart Association describes the proper CPR guidelines as follows:

  • Check the victim for responsiveness by asking loudly, “Are you okay?” and shaking their shoulder firmly. If they are unresponsive and do not have a pulse, rescuers should call 911 and begin CPR immediately.
  • Rescuers should perform rapid chest compressions at a rate of 120 beats per minute, firmly pressing down a minimum of 2 inches deep into the victim’s chest. Continue compressions until emergency medical assistance arrives and can take over.
  • If a victim is not breathing normally, rescuers should perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, also known as rescue breathing. Placing their mouth over the victim’s, rescuers should deliver one rescue breath and observe if the victim’s chest rises. If the chest does not inflate, give a second breath before resuming chest compressions.
  • Perform CPR at a ratio of 30 compressions to 2 rescue breaths and continue this pattern until emergency medical staff arrives. If a victim’s normal breath returns, rescuers can continue to perform compressions only.

What is an AED, and when is it required?

An automated external defibrillator (AED) restarts a heart that has stopped due to a cardiac arrest. CPR pumps blood to the organs during a cardiac arrest and will maintain a manual heartbeat until it is restarted by an AED, either by a bystander or emergency worker. AEDs are available for public use in airports, schools, parks, shopping malls, subway stations, libraries, and sports arenas. An AED is needed when a victim does not have a pulse.

Another bystander should go to retrieve the nearest AED. If there is only one rescuer present, they should deliver five cycles of chest compressions before leaving the victim to retrieve an AED quickly. The voice-automated device will guide the rescuer through each step of use. After using the AED, rescuers should confirm that the victim’s pulse returns before they stop delivering chest compressions. They may continue rescue breathing if the victim is not breathing on their own.

Question

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Q. What basic techniques are covered in a first aid class?

First aid is used to treat accidental injuries and preserve life until the emergency responder team can take over. The most common first aid emergencies that this course will cover are bone fractures, poisoning, choking, head injuries, wounds, and burns. Free first aid classes will include some basic knowledge. Still, they will not provide a curriculum as complete as a paid course, nor will they give official first aid certification to participants who complete the class.

Q: Where can I find BLS and CPR classes near me?

Group basic life support (BLS) and CPR training are available in any municipality in Utah, including Logan, Ogden, and Salt Lake City. In addition, hospitals, community centers, and local health organizations offer American Red Cross CPR and first aid certification classes, typically on evenings and weekends. However, suppose individuals live in areas where a BLS and CPR course are not offered, or they prefer to complete their certification at their own pace. In that case, they may enjoy the convenience of taking an online course, where they can access the coursework on any mobile device or P.C.

Many free online courses teach basic CPR guidelines but do not provide formal certification card. However, individuals can become fully certified online for a small course fee. Certification classes will also teach more detailed techniques such as child CPR and CPR for infants.

Q. How can I increase my CPR and first aid knowledge?

Individuals should prioritize revisiting their CPR and first aid knowledge before their certification expiration date. Keeping certification valid allows participants to stay current on new guidelines. In addition, many students become even more passionate about life-saving procedures after completing first aid and CPR courses. They may wish to upgrade their training to include a first responder course or learn more about child CPR or CPR for infants.

Q. How can I find CPR and first aid renewals near me?

In-person classes are offered throughout the main cities in Utah. Individuals can also renew their CPR certification through online recertification courses. Online training courses are an appealing option for people in remote locations or for professionals with busy schedules who prefer self-guided learning.
